Programs for At Risk Youth in Lowell

At Elevate New England, we are committed to transforming the lives of at-risk youth in Lowell by building long-term, life-changing relationships with New England’s urban youth, equipping them to thrive and contribute to their communities. Our approach aims to break the cycle of generational poverty and empower students to succeed in school, career, and life.

The Need for Change in Education for Urban Youth

Urban youth encounter significant hurdles that can severely impact their academic and personal development. From attending under-resourced schools to lacking access to positive role models, these young individuals face challenges that many of their peers do not. These barriers can stifle their potential and limit their opportunities for success. There is an urgent need for transformative programs that not only address these issues head-on but also provide the essential support and guidance these students need to overcome adversity and thrive. Elevate New England’s initiatives are designed to fill this critical gap, fostering resilience, ambition, and hope for a brighter future.

About Elevate New England

Elevate New England was formed in 2016 with the mission of building long-term, life-changing relationships with New England’s urban youth, equipping them to thrive and contribute to their communities. Over the past eight years, we have grown to serve over 1,700 youth per year in Lowell and Lawrence, MA. We are the only non-profit organization that teaches accredited classes in public schools, combining in-school education with long-term mentoring by staff members who are also community members.

Our Programs We Provide Local Youth in Need

We offer a variety of programs to help at-risk youth in Lowell. Each program is designed to support different areas of development, making sure our students get the help they need to succeed.

Teacher/Student Mentor Programs

Our Teacher-Mentors are part teacher, part mentor, and part life coach. They are hired from the communities we serve, so they understand and relate to the students they work with. They make themselves available 24/7 to build strong relationships with students. These mentors stay with students from 3rd grade through high school, providing long-term support and guidance.

Character Education & Life Skills Programs

Our accredited classes focus on character formation, life skills, and leadership. These classes are taught in public schools and align with Common Core State Standards. Students learn through group activities and discussions, building important qualities and skills for life. They implement their skills by leading cross-age mentoring at local schools and community impact projects.

Adventure Outdoor Programs

We believe in pushing students to build confidence by exploring life beyond their comfort zones. Through activities like hiking, rock climbing, and biking, students develop teamwork, leadership skills, and grit. These new and challenging experiences help students grow and succeed.

Workforce Development Programs

We prepare students for the workforce by teaching job interview skills, helping with resume writing, and offering summer internships each year. These programs give students the tools they need to succeed in their future careers. We also have direct partnerships with trade training academies and major corporations that hire our high school graduates.

College Preparation Programs

We help students explore and prepare for college by offering guidance on college visits, applications, and financial aid. This includes visiting students in their homes and assisting immigrant and first-generation college students in completing FAFSA. Our goal is to make higher education accessible and achievable for all our students.
